kate andrew reclaimed slate paintings

Kate Andrew discovered that slate makes the most beautiful canvas when she visited a reclamation yard a few of years ago and picked up a used roofing slate to use for her house number. The colours and textures on the slates tell a story on their own and each one is unique.

Each picture that Kate paints on the slates is hand painted and individual. She paints with predominantly in gouache and sometimes acrylic and after a picture is painted, Kate seals it with a matt varnish to protect the picture and enhance the colours on both the slate and the picture painted on it. All her work is created in her studio in Devon.
