It will be a showcase of paintings focusing on the Malvern Hills and will run throughout October.

malvern poppy view

Using a mixture of watercolour, bamboo pen and pen and ink, Tia has produced a collection of contemporary works of art that feel like breaths of fresh air! Tia’s work gives you a real sense of being there in the moment. She captures the wind blowing through the long grass, the fresh air, distant hills and uncovers the underlying rhythms within the landscapes using fast and often unpredictable brushstrokes and washes of colour. Armed with watercolours, brushes, easel and paper Tia works outdoors, directly from the landscapes around her. The unpredictability of watercolour and the ever-changing conditions of working outdoors means that a large amount of nervous energy and fast brushwork are combined to create fresh, spontaneous and flowing images that really bring the landscapes to life on the paper.

summer cow parsley & malvern from chances view

Tia says, “It’s a rather knife edge way of painting. There is a certain amount of adrenaline that comes from using watercolour and wet on wet washes that have to be applied quickly. It can produce fresh results but can also go horribly wrong!”

Since moving to Malvern from London 22 years ago, Tia has developed a strong attachment to the hills and the surrounding landscapes, as she says, “Malvern really feels like home”, and this affection shines through her work. Inspired by landscape paintings from artists such as Paul Nash that try to capture the ‘spirit of a place’, and combined with Tia’s deep attachment to nature and the English landscape, this collection of paintings capture the essence of the countryside on and around the Malvern Hills.

Cow parsley, paper and paint will consist of 30 original paintings, and a selection of cards produced exclusively for us and for you to enjoy. The show runs from the 3rd – 31st October, and the gallery is open Mon – Sat, 10am – 5.30pm. On Saturday 3rd Tia will be resident at the gallery all day and you are most welcome to come and chat with her. Miller at iapetus gallery in Great Malvern, Worcestershire. The work in the exhibition has been selected from Neil’s official pictorial book for the Centenary celebrations, “Morgan Exploration, a photographer’s journey through an automotive tradition.”

Picture of Aero 8 from Morgan Exploration

The book features photography, stories and quotes from Neil’s own Morgan experiences which began in 1964, when as a car mad student in Ohio he bought a 1961 Plus 4 Morgan which had been written-off, and proceeded to rebuild it. The book captures the reality of Morgan ownership, and the human side of living with them, with photos of families piled into 4-seaters, and passengers huddled under picnic rugs to keep dry. There are also stunning black and white images of Morgans set in dynamic countryside, as well as an enlightening series of shots taken within the factory, giving an insight into the craftsmanship involved in the making of a Morgan motor car.

The book, as featured in Morgan Miscellany, is available to buy from us (see details below). If you can make it to the gallery on the Saturday 25th July Neil will be available to sign customer’s copies. A special limited edition version of Morgan Exploration will also be on sale at the gallery which includes a print taken from the book, an insert with a short statement, edition number & signature.

Also a special guest appearance will be made outside the gallery on the 25th by the previously unknown original 1956 Morgan, TOK 258, raced by Chris Lawrence. Featured in our local paper, the Malvern Gazette, this will be the first opportunity for local Morgan enthusiasts to view the car and talk with its owner before its appearance at the Morgan Centenary in Cheltenham.

Morgan Exploration will run from Saturday 25th July until 8th August and iapetus gallery is open Monday to Saturday, 10am until 5.30pm. We hope you can join us.

To purchase your copy of Morgan Exploration by Neil A.
