Bertil Vallien joined Kosta Boda in 1963 and has become by far the most internationally celebrated glass artist and designer in Sweden. One of his most successful Kosta Boda ranges of recent years is his 'Brains' series. These beautifully crafted heads are designed as anti-stress pieces, to fit perfectly in the palm of your hand and with eight different designs to choose from there is one to fit every type of personality. He has recently launched 'thoughts' - mini clear glass heads with meaningfull words floating in them. Aside from his artistic work he is a highly skilled and successful industrial designer; his creations include Château, one of the best-selling ranges of handmade glasses over the years.

Bertil has received numerous awards and his work is well represented in leading museums around the world. He is known most of all as the master of sand moulding and his solid, deep-blue, four-meter-long ship has become part of modern glass history. His creations in recent years include ‘Heads’, a long series of enigmatic, solid, blue glass heads of different sizes. He works in a mythical, dream-like world of symbolic imagery, and undertaking what he describes as a never-ending research quest.
